Poetry: “Hollow words”

Hollow words

People talk and talk and talk,

Not much substance, full of lies.

They decorate the words they speak,

Make them seem like something great.

They wave their arms to make them grow,

The words that spew out of their mouths.

Promises and grand rewards,

They’ll give to you for your loyalty.

We let their grand charade go on,

Because of all those pretty words.

We hope that they’ll contain some truth,

Though hope is slowly dwindling.

Those people they have been trained well,

In how to deceive other men.

Like actors they all hog the stage,

Though what they create ain’t fictional.

We’re slowly clued in to their lies,

We roll out eyes and turn our backs.

But no matter what we do,

These liars will still rule the world.
