Poetry: “Childhood farewells”

Sometimes, we have to say goodbye…

Childhood farewells

I say farewell
To memories
To ancient paths
Between the trees
To rugged cliffs
Where seas did lap
And seagull cries
Rocked me to sleep

I say farewell
To foamy waves
The dock that creaked
On windy days
To fireplace
That crackled warm
To dusty roads
And cows in fields

I say farewell
To walls and brick
To porches where
Our meals were had
To berry bushes
And the deer
And where the foxes
Did once nest
