Poetry: “My Ash Tree”

And yeah, another tree poem!

My Ash Tree

Outside my bedroom window
Stands an old weathered ash
For year he has stood vigil
As people come and go

He’s stood there since before my birth
Yea, even before my dad’s
When my grandma was young still
And not so old and worn in bed

His weathered limbs tell stories
Of storms that raged and howled
The time the pavement layers
Made a mess out of his roots

He’s stood so long, he’ll stand more yet
At least if I can have a say
To him I am so grateful
For the summer’s gentle shade
