Poetry: “Starling”

Spring continues its slow advance against winter…

The first arrival in the tree
His coat it has a pretty sheen
He sings his song
For absent ears
The others are still on their way

His quirky song is much beloved
A mimicry that’s world renowned
In early spring
Is his debut
Then summer long we hear his call

Though now alone the time will come
When other starlings join in song
In summer nights
They take to wing
And swirl and dip high in the sky
