Poetry: “Green Christmas”

It’s happened more times than I’d like…

Green Christmas

Though a common sight
In other climes
There’s nothing as sad
As a Christmas that’s green

The snow on the ground
Brings forth such cheer
An echo of sleigh bells
From olden times

It lights up the dark
Of December nights
Where candles’ light
Reflects in the snow

Without that white
Darkness descends
And where there’d be snowflakes
Falls only rain

I find myself mourning
The change I can see
For snow feels so vital
This time of year
