Poetry: “Retirement”

A little bleak, perhaps…

Remove oneself
From working life
To lay down tools
And settle down
To let your body
Rest at last
And let the days
Pass as they may
For years it’s been
A just reward
To walk out proudly
Head held high
Yea now I see
That fallacy
Those just rewards
Are for but few
The rest of up
Our backs all bent
Will stagger off
To simply die
