Poetry: “Winter months”

Here they come… All of us who live in the north brace ourselves.

Winter months

Here starts my months long vigil
As the lands grow cold and stiff
A long wait until sunshine
Can breathe life into my bones

There exists a kind of beauty
In this frozen grip of death
A landscape that won’t alter much
Until spring returns anew

The crunch of snow beneath my boots
While the ice reflects the sun
Like a bear I slowly take it in
Then retreat back in my den
