Poetry: “Pretend”

Daily life…

***~***~***~***

Pretend

I am a grown woman
Who plays pretend
Attempts a face
Towards the world

Dressing nice
Despite the chore
It sometimes is
To head outside

Smiles and nods
Try to converse
Such empty prattle
See me go

Despite my wants
I am aware
I need the world
To stay alive

And to survive
I don my mask
Put on this show
I play pretend
