Poetry: “Ill-fitting”

Thoughts on fitting in… Mental health related.

Ill-fitting

A foot forced down
In a shoe
Though beautiful
Far too small
Pinching at your toes

A nice sweater
Knitted by your grandma
With such love
But how it itches
Clinging to your frame

A cardboard box
The last one in stock
Stuffing it full
Of things to be sent
All the tape to keep it shut

Forced into roles
Putting on a show
To be nice
And kind
Stuffing things inside
Until you burst
And it all comes tumbling out
