Poetry: “By the rules”

Forgetting at times that we are a part of the natural world, with all that entails…

By the rules

Nature plays
By her own rules
Not by the rules
That man hath wrought
So easily
We all forget
How small we are
In this great world
Egos swelled
To mammoth size
Place ourselves
High on pedestals
Doing what
What’er we please
To think the Earth
Was made for man
But our crimes
They will not pay
For nature has
That final say
Our arrogance
With laws writ out
When Earth was born
We shall see
Hope not too late
The need to play
By nature’s rules
