Poetry: “Dusty shelves”

I have recently had to think carefully about my past and felt rather upset at how hard some of it was to remember…

Dusty shelves

I venture deep inside my mind
Run my hand down dusty shelves
So much that’s been forgotten
Put away for far too long
How many of my memories
All the moments that I lived
Have all been tucked away back here
And been left to gather dust

If I’m lucky all I have to do
Pull them out and dust them off
After just a little love and care
Those life moments will come back
But I fear as I survey these shelves
That for some it’s far too late
If I explore all these dusty shelves
All will crumble in my hands
