Poetry: “Market day”

A saved memory.

Market day

Blue sky gently arching
With sun perched in its midst
Glitter on the water
The harbor with its fish
Along the piers where boats are moored
The stalls line up in rows
Their colors seem to mingle
With the flowers on the walls
The market is a living thing
It stretches on and on
The parks with palms and aloe plants
Play host to teeming life
Like trails of ants the people move
Go up and down the streets
To stop and talk with folks they know
Or even buy some thing
The sun that burns relentlessly
It slowly takes its toll
With time some flee the market stalls
To the shade of restaurants
