Poetry: “Past mistakes”

Sadly very topical right now.

Past mistakes

Is mankind thus forever doomed
To repeat past mistakes
Endless repetition
Going round and round
We heed not our elders
The ones who have been there
Who lived through all the madness
And sacrificed so much
Our own selective blindness
Pick and choosing facts
Raising up the wrong men
To lead us all astray
Leaning not on kindness
And love for fellow men
Instead we’re choosing hatred
And more xenophobia
How can we not remember
Have we not grown at all?
Our ancestors are crying out
Don’t repeat past mistakes!
