Poetry: “Polychromy”

Saw a thing about this, the fact that ancient statues and other works of art had more color than they retain today…

Polychromy

Paint my history in colors
In all the shades
That they
All dreamed
A door left into ancient times
To peek through if you dare

No more pale white marble faces
Let them blossom
And
Grow bright
In colors that they had in life
The same hues that we still share

Don’t let pillars and the friezes
All remain
So cold
And bare
Bring out what all the old artists
Had intended for their works
