Poetry: “August moon”

First day of August, the slow decline of summer begins.

August moon

The August moon is hanging
Heavy in the sky
Bringing some of summer’s light
Into our summer nights

The August moon shines brightly
With such a friendly face
It lights us all on our way
When we seek the cool of night

The August moon grows bigger
With every passing week
Much like all the crops we grow
As harvest time grows near

The August moon shall dwindle
As time keeps moving on
It is a harsh reminder
Of summer’s future end
