Poetry: “Ode to the tortoise”

To those who refuse to hurry.

Ode to the tortoise

Hail to the slow ones
Who don’t pick up their pace
Refusing yet the beck and call
To drive the wheels along

Hail to all the steadfast
Yet who might underachieve
Doing but what must be done
To live their lives in peace

Hail to all the patient
Those who think before they act
Who watch the meadow full of grass
And merely think it doth look fine

Hail then to the moderate
Those who don’t crave ever more
Quite satisfied with what life gave
See no point to rush along
