Poetry: “A summer progression”

A summer scene, for the first day of July.

Happy Canada Day! 🙂

A summer progression

The heat off the pavement
Mirroring the sun
Beads of sweat
Forming on your brow
Above
The swallows dart
Trilling fills
The air
Hanging heavy
With summer scents
Flowers in the ditches
And lining the path
Alongside wild strawberries
Just becoming ripe
Sand
Warm beneath your feet
Water cool
As waves lap your calves
Sandals clasped tightly
While ice cream melts
Onto your hand
