Poetry: “On Midsummer”

Oh, this holiday… Celebrated primarily in northern Europe.

***~***~***~***

On Midsummer

Us northerners favorite
With roots that stretch back
To celebrate summer
And its days without end

We raise our may poles
And dress them with leaves
Then dance all around it
And make phallic jokes

As soon as its proper
We fill up our glass
With beer and with spirits
That burn going down

The food that is proper
Is really quite dull
It’s not for the dining
That we keep up this stuff

Stay up until sunset
Then we carry on
Till sun slowly rises
Well, that’s hardly that long

A grand celebration
Of summer and life
Though what we remember
Well that truly depends…
