Poetry: “Coinage”

Musings on coins.

***~***~***~***

Coinage

Shiny discs of metal
A sliver in your hand
You once had weight behind you
Which gave away your worth

No more are precious metals
A great part of your make
It all is superficial
That glitters in the light

Your beauty can be tarnished
Your surface worn and bruised
Yet still you keep exchanging hands
A cycle that goes on

In time your last days in the light
Will finally come to pass
When only on museum shelves
Your shine will be displayed
