Poetry: “Dear summer”

A letter to summer, in early June.

Dear summer

Dear summer I welcome
You back to our lands
My memories of you
Are always so sweet

With warm southern winds
And skies without clouds
A sun that kept shining
From dawn until dusk

You had your downsides
Your thorns among blooms
The bugs and the heat waves
And harsh, sudden rains

But here at your dawning
I’m blind to your faults
So come take advantage
Of this love that I feel
