Poetry: “On hope”

A concept I have been thinking about a fair bit this past month.

On hope

Hope is not for sunny days
The ones of perfect ease
You save it for a later date
When clouds blot out the light

Hope is for the darkest days
When joy seems far away
When news received is never good
That’s when it’s needed most

When all your efforts to succeed
Are foiled at every turn
When every day feels hard to face
That’s when you need that hope

When malaise and fretfulness
Make nests inside your mind
Dig deep into that well of hope
To get back upon your feet

No, hope is not for sunny days
Don’t waste it carelessly
For soon the light will turn away
And you need that ray of hope
