Poetry: “Hazardous”

Another poem about writing and the creative process…

Writing can be hazardous
To your health
Mind wrapped up
In strange new worlds
Dialogue unfolding
While we peel potatoes
Important details
Revealed to us
As we try to go to sleep
Attention drawn away
From the present
To the goings on
In your mind
Words begging so hard
To be written
You become frozen
To the keyboard
Or the notebook
Compulsory writing
Scratching that itch
While the rest of your life
Can fall to pieces
Laundry left unfolded
Dinner left to burn
Bed still not slept in

But the rewards are such
That it’s a risk
I am willing to take
