Poetry: “The sun rises”

Happy new year across the world!

I guess my brain went back to the thing Obama said around the US election night, about how the one thing that was sure, was that the sun would rise in the morning the next day. There’s something nice and comforting about that.

The sun rises

And so the sun rises
Bleak across the world
Blinking in the early dawn
As year begins anew

Feebly stretching ‘cross the land
With hungry, grabbing hands
Touching all and feeling all
The world within its palm

Last year pushed into the past
As sun crawls steadily on
Shines its light where it can reach
Assessing all that’s left

To march on in the year old tracks
Or find a brand new path
Despite all else, one thing is true
The sun, it will still rise
