Poetry: “December sun”

Some more obsessing about the light, or rather, the lack of it, this time of year.

December sun

What beauty then
To see the light
When endless dark
Pulls tight its cloak
Around the land
Where hoarfrost hangs
In thickened clumps
On winter morns
Where day is fleeting
Frightful short
Barely here
And then it’s gone
I drink it up
I swallow deep
The precious light
That nurtures me
I keep it safe
Inside my gut
A last reserve
When darkness comes
