Poetry: “Trees on fire”

More musing on the good bits about fall, now that we’re in the worst of it, ha ha.

Trees on fire

Some time the trees were on fire
In hues of gold and red
Lighting up the evenings
October made more bright

They were a fiery beacon
When days were grey and cold
As harsh winds blew around you
They rustled at your feet

But now the leaves have fallen
And withered on the ground
Where once trees were afire
There’s only ashes left
