Poetry: “Inner conflict”

Some more personal musings in poetry form.

Inner conflict

To be a damsel in distress
Is frowned upon
Don’t be a victim
But sometimes I do feel weak
And somewhat helpless
Yearning for a guiding hand
Is that betrayal of the rest?
Independent thought is lauded
Cheered, rewarded
Given prizes
But sometimes I want to be
One in a crowd
That does belong
A sheep of sorts
That can feel comfort
Rubbing shoulders quite content
To be yourself
Would be easy
Without these muddled messages
I walk a tightrope
Between impulses
Hoping that it all works out
