Poetry: “Fleeting”

A little poem on life.

***~***~***~***

Fleeting

What are our lives
But a succession of events
Of moments
Fleeting
But sweet to hold
Memories lined up
Like beads on a string
Each a gleaming jewel
But slowly falling off
A torn string
Into forgetfulness of old age
And eventual demise

Thus we must train ourselves
To hold fast
Clutching at beads
Slippery to the touch
Savor the taste of them
Like a piece of candy
Melting in your mouth
Soon to leave nothing
But a hint of flavor
Fleeting sweetness
But sweetness nonetheless
Preserve the scents
Of pleasant moments
Like fresh bread
Or cookies
Wafting from the oven
Before dispersing on the cool evening breeze
