Poetry: “Fleeting seasons”

Something that just hit me a short while ago.

Fleeting seasons

Where did summer go?
It seemed but yesterday
That balmy winds still stroked my skin
And sunshine warmed my face

Quite recently I walked here
And basked in warmth and sun
But now the night grows longer
And winds blow cold and strong

Not long ago the flowers bloomed
And leaves stretched t’wards the sky
Now plant life withers all around
And trees drop all their leaves

How fleeting is the summer
When suddenly it’s gone
Leaving us but memories
To warm us in the fall
