Poetry: “Church bells”

Some musing on this old tradition, as I perceive it here in my home country.

Church bells

Melodious ringing
That echoes afar
It’s been heard on Sundays
For many long years

They called to the farmers
To put work aside
And gather together
For this once a week

They rang for the mourners
And jubilant crowds
That all came together
For births or for love

Though chuch has lost power
As times slowly changed
That ancient old ringing
It still echoes on
