Poetry: “Local warfare”

Something playful for today.

Local warfare

Every park’s a battlefield
A struggle for the strong
Where speed is of the essence
To the winner goes the spoils

Every little bread crumb
Or a french fry left behind
All of it’s a treasure
Worth fighting beak and claw

The pigeons seem to dominate
But here some jackdaws come
With sharper beaks they swoop in
And chase the pigeons off

What mankind leaves as garbage
The birds claim for their own
Their battles can be quite as fierce
As those between us men
