Poetry: “Memories of cloth”

I visited a small local museum and among their collection of old clothes I found a corset/undergarment that had once belonged to a great great grandmother and her mother in turn. Very inspirational.

Memories of cloth

Folded panels
Stiff, unyielding
Softest fabric
T’wards the skin

Of great perfection
Rustling dresses
Came to call

Wrapped in paper
Worn with duty
Hugging forms
Beneath a gown

Years in boxes
Has preserved it
And the places
Times it’s seen

Echoes of
The hands that touched
And memories
Of times gone by
