Poetry:”The slow fading”

Time’s passage, the end of summer and such things.

The slow fading

The last flowers of summer
Such brave warriors
Fighting dry conditions
And sudden early chills
To spread their fronds
Reveal their stunted blooms
To drink in the fading sunlight
And suck the last nutrients
From the weary soil
A true fighting spirit
A role model for all

Oh, to be like them
When I reach my older years
To not bury myself
In dank, dark rooms
Fleeing the sunlight
Living only in memories
But to unfurl my brightest colors
And proudly show my furrowed face
To the world outside
