Poetry: “Poppies”

Been thinking abut how long it has been since the two great wars in the last century and how many of those that lived through them, the fighting, the concentration camps are dying off now…

There’s but one poppy
In the field
Where once stood an army

They stood in rows
Rows upon rows
Of poppies blazing red
Splashes of color
In the desolation
An admonition
A reminder
Of what fruits our rashness
Brought to us all

But now the time of poppies
Of rows and rows of red
Is nearly over
And it is up to us
Without their aid
To never forget
