Poetry: “The fear”

A little bit of dystopia here, showing what our world could be like if fear won out.

The fear

I walk in the empty city
Only rats for company
Headlines flapping in the breeze
With dark foreboding words

No more will children roam
No more will people meet
The corners are all scary
With things lurking behind

Barely a car can be seen
And then it’s the police
Slowly roaming empty streets
Who once were full of life

The wind, it stirs the wreckage
That has been left behind
They signify a triumph
And that we all have lost
