Poetry: “Suika”

I had to use the Japanese word for watermelon here. I just love how that word feels in my mouth. 🙂

Suika

Sturdy green exterior
Revealing ruby flesh
Glistening with moisture
A perfect summer treat

Crispy flesh so succulent
Dribbling down your chin
Tiny little black seeds
Spit onto the ground

Cut in slices, or in cubes
Served up to your guests
Both desert and starter
A very useful fruit

Imagine then a summer day
Laid out on the grass
Nibbling on some melon
A picture perfect scene
