Poetry: “Enter the jungle”

This poem was inspired by Henri Rousseau’s jungle paintings and little bit by the recent Jungle Book movie.

Enter the jungle

Leaves still dripping
With yesterday’s rain
Millions of eyes observing
They watch your every step

Flowers blooming everywhere
Scents powerful and rank
Bugs that buzz and hover
They seek out every crack

Path so old and crooked
Lead you through the green
Trees like pillars block the sun
They decide where you may go

Soil so ancient crumbling
Underneath your feet
Paw prints left by others
That live within these halls

Mankind’s lived an instant
Compared to this vast place
Here you’re just a visitor
Among green and watchful eyes
