Poetry: “Douceur”

Presented without further commentary.

I wrap myself in cotton
In a world of jagged spikes
Piercing, tearing bigotry
You find most everywhere

Chill winds blow most anywhere
So wear a coat of wool
Something warm and cozy
That shields from icy words

Soft and pleasant cashmere
Is not much of a shield
But feels so nice against your skin
When cruelty’s around

Some angora and smooth silk
So lovely and so fine
Reminders that there is yet good
In this fabricated world
