Poetry: “My Yggdrasil”

A poem to the old ash tree that stands just outside my apartment.

My Yggdrasil

Your canopy that stretches wide
Ancient branches fringed with moss
Give me shelter when the sun
In summer sends its scorching rays

Heavy trunk so wide across
Tall and sturdy, with your years
Tells a story of your life
The toils and troubles your survived

Knobbly roots that curl and twist
Spreading out and making room
Pavement, stones they step aside
To let you have what you desire

Older than this house I live
In mine eyes ancient beyond count
You are my own, my Yggdrasil
May you stand tall for decades more
