Poetry: “Waking bear”

Another poem inspired by a visit to the zoo.

Waking bear

Awake you bear from winter slumber
Spring is here
The sun is warming
Emerge now from your cozy den
Come smell the new things in the air

Stand then blinking in the light
After so long, that’s your right
Napping for so many months
Makes you sluggish
That is true

Good morning, bear
You have been missed
So empty all the forests seemed
Without you and your mighty frame
So, welcome back
Now stay awake
