Poetry: “Grey morning”

That somber reminder that it is still early days for spring where I live.

Grey morning

Day that dawns in monochrome
Winter’s claws still grabs a hold
Hoops its finger in your skin
Icy marks left by that touch

Birds that sang just yesterday
Now have lost their voice
Tiny peeking flower buds
Now shiver in their beds

Sun is tapped behind a shroud
Too weak yet to tear it off
Rain is hanging like a threat
Icy arrows to fall forth

People wander in a daze
Wonder what is going on
Praying only for an end
This morning turn to sunny day
