Poetry: “Starlings”

A beloved sign of spring for me, with a humorous twist at the end.

Early birds of spring
Getting all the worms
Squeaky wheels that get
The grease
At least that’s how it sounds

Rainbow sparkling feathers
Gleaming in the sun
Strolling ‘cross the meadow
Newly awakened
Early flowers strews about

Shakespeare wrote them
A part of his great work
Starlings there flying about
Causing fans
To make them an invasive species
