Poetry: “The tower of Babel”

Some ramblings/musings on language.

The tower of Babel

Language making bridges
Bridges to the past
The past where we were speaking
Speaking all as one
All as one our mother tongue
Our common mother tongue
Then time and spaces drifting
Drifted us apart

Tongues that shifted
Evolution taking hold
Common root words morphing
Living their own lives
Yet though we might be sundered
Our language bridges burnt
We can make reparations
And stretch ‘cross the divide

To find our common origins
Our common mother tongues
The words we share that us connect
Connect us into one
It will take some effort
Some learning and some heart
And patience then to listen
For our common thoughts
