Poetry: “Mistress Winter”

A wintery poem for today.

Mistress Winter

I love you mistress winter
And I hate you all the same
The beauty that you bring us
Come tinged with bitter pain

You dust the ground so prettily
With white and gleaming frost
But turn all the wet patches
Into treacherous black ice

You fill the air with snowflakes
That wrap the world in white
But the chill that comes with it
It sinks into your bones

You make all gloomy mornings
Shine bright like summer days
But the feeble daylight
Makes you long for warmer days

She is a cruel mistress
But she has a gentle touch
Though she makes me miss the warmth
There’s such beauty that she brings
