Poetry: “Children”

Or rather, children as I see them.

Mouths that taste
Eyes that see
Fingers grabbing, touching
Ears that hear
Every sound analyzed
Filed away for future reference
Every sight put away
In growing brains
Expanding hard drives
Of these beta humans
Not quite ready
But ready to be
Eternally learning
Eyes as vigilant
As a doberman
Testing their limits
The extent of their abilities
What they are allowed
To do
Forbidden fruit the most tempting
Forever keeping their parents
On their toes
