Poetry: “Ghost stories”

Halloween today, and I offer up something appropriate again this year.

Ghost stories

How they fascinate us
Stories ’bout the unexplained
Flicker lights in darkened windows
Creaking sounds in empty rooms

Dragging bodies, wind like moaning
Animals that act all spooked
Flocking to them, flies to honey
Stories birthing horror thrills

Tales of specters, ghouls and ghosts
Long singe deal come back to roam
Feel that shiver down your spine
Sign that we are not alone

In this modern world of science
World pulled open and explained
Still so many seem those stories
Tales of things just off the map

Here there be dragons
Here there be ghosts
Here there are dangers lurking at night
Though they are fantasies, logic states
It doesn’t hurt you to play along
