Poetry: “On reading”

Another beloved topic, which ties into the poem from yesterday.

On reading

A world contained
Within covers
Crackling open
The scent of paper, and ink
Letting you
Fly on a spaceship
Descend into a cave
Flee from monsters
Or defeat some dark lord
Like with Bastian and his Neverending story
Curled up in your favorite spot
Joining characters
On adventures far and wide
Pulse racing as danger looms
Smiles and cheers when good triumphs
Tears when disaster strikes
Paint a grey reality
In all the hues of the rainbow
A cheap form of excitement
To challenge your mind
But most of all
To entertain you
