Poetry: “Nara”

A lovely place I got to visit for an afternoon.

Laden with much history
Not all of it was good
As capital you were not kind
Can’t help them for moving it

The deer, they are your guardians
Or at least that’s how it seems
Perhaps birthed from that kami one
Who appeared so long ago

To tread in your vicinity
Is to feel wrapped up in you
And to gaze at your great Buddha
Why one must feel fairly awed

You’re not the biggest city
And some parts feel stuck in time
But you have temples and your park
So you really can’t be missed
