Poetry: “Bamboo”

More travel inspiration, with a photo from the bamboo forest at Arashiyama, outside of Kyoto.

Tender green sprouts shooting
Shooting up towards the light
Quickly gaining length and girth
Within days it’s risen high

Rapid spread where space allows
One shoot’s joined by two and three
Spaced out in certain intervals
With a bushy, leafy top

It forms a bright green ceiling
Gently rocked by balmy breeze
It’s not trees that you walk among
It is grass that’s your retreat

Not just food for the pandas
Other uses can be found
Chopsticks, mugs and furniture
And some shade from summer’s heat
