Poetry: “Tanabata”

I was fortunate enough to experience this Japanese holiday in Kyoto, as they go by the old calendar there (in other places it’s celebrated in July).

Stars reunion
Lights that twinkle
In the dark

Shoes that clatter
On the street
Couples strolling
Side by side

Making wishes
Write them down
Hang them up there
Bamboo stalks

Once a year
Canal lights up
Hopes and dreams
And lovers sigh
