Poetry: “Rite of spring”

Let’s start off May with a poem that feels appropriate for my corner of the world, where spring is welcomed with a bonfire on the evening/night of April 30th.

Rite of spring

May begins with fire

Devouring the corpse of winter

A pyre built up high

From human rubbish heaps

A springtime sacrifice

Shooting sparks into the night

Grateful nature spirits whisper

“Come, come, let us be friends

Come join us on this special night

And observe this rite of spring”
